Ferring West Sussex Case Study – Play Area Improvements – Arun Dictrict Council

Case Study Title: Ferring Village Green Play Area Improvements

Client: Michael Rowland – Arun District Council, Bognor Regis Town Hall, Clarence Road, Bognor Regis, PO21 1LD.

Location: Ferring Village Green, Rife Way, Ferring, Worthing, West Sussex. BN12 5RP.

Budget: £30k

Description:
Ferring Village Green is in the centre of Ferring, a small village in the heart of West Sussex. Arun District Council along with Ferring Parish Council who played an important role in the consultation process (along with public consultations) helped to decide what type of equipment would be specified and installed. The items chosen were to be installed to a prescribed layout as defined by the District Council.

The Play Equipment specification was as follows:

– 30 Metre Cable Runway
– Cradle Nest Swing
– A Climbing unit (including Climbing Wall, Platform, Access Ladders, Fireman’s Pole, Stainless Steel Slide and a Vertical Climbing Net)

Jonathan Foster from Foster Playscapes Ltd (01903 525209 – fosterplayscapesltd@ntlworld.com) successfully tendered for project and was subsequently awarded the contract which also included the safety surfacing (grass matting) aspect of the works. Dylan Group designed and quoted for the play equipment section of the tender (as their play equipment had been supplied for previous Foster Playscapes projects) and were subsequently instructed to manufacture and supply the Play Equipment for the Ferring scheme. The only minor change, at the client’s request, was the nest swing to be substituted for a single point cantilever swing. The play equipment (BS EN 1176 Standard) was fabricated at Dylan Group’s workshops in West Sussex by their professional team of highly skilled craftsman using hardwood timber (specially selected and graded Robinia Timber from Eastern Europe) complete with Stainless Steel fixings and fittings.

The ability to have something that is not ‘off the shelf’ allows a project to be tailored to the situation.”
